We received 53 problems from the director of the tourney without names of composers. We were nicely surprised with the quality and quantity of entries, especially since the theme was in our opinion difficult, intriguing and rather limited. One little detail – none threemover took part.
We excluded No 1 (Kd4-Kc7) in view of twins form and No 19 (Ka1-Kf4, 5+7), No 20 (Ka1-Kf4, 5+9), No 21 (Kh8-Kf4), No 41 (Kh4-Kb1) which were not thematic (presenting only one unpinning in each solution).
We were faced with the interesting situation in problems No 14 (Kh3-Ke5), No 29 (Kb6-Kd4), No 30 (Kb1 Kd4), No 46 (Kg8-Kf5), No 47 (Kc8-Ke2), No 48 (Ke6-Kb3), No 49 (Kc5-Kf4), No 50 (Ke5-Kd3), No 51 (Ke3-Kd7). They were all based on an interesting motive where two black pieces unpin a single white piece. This is not strictly against the set theme but we consider it a weakness, a sort of half-unpin. Since this weakness would in this TT cause a lower placement of at least two otherwise excellent problems (No 49 and No 51), we decided not to include any of them in the award hoping to see them placed high in awards of some informal tourneys.
Мы получили от директора 53 задачи в анонимном виде. Мы были приятно удивлены их количеством и качеством, особенно с учетом того, что предложенная тема, на наш взгляд, была увлекательной и довольно ограниченной. Одна маленькая деталь – среди присланных не было ни одной h#3.
Мы исключили No 1 (Kd4-Kc7) из-за формы близнецов и No 19 (Ka1-Kf4, 5+7), No 20 (Ka1-Kf4, 5+9), No 21 (Kh8-Kf4), No 41 (Kh4-Kb1) из-за нетематичности (только одно развязывание в каждом решении).
Мы столкнулись с интересной ситуацией в задачах No 14 (Kh3-Ke5), No 29 (Kb6-Kd4), No 30 (Kb1 Kd4), No 46 (Kg8-Kf5), No 47 (Kc8-Ke2), No 48 (Ke6-Kb3), No 49 (Kc5-Kf4), No 50 (Ke5-Kd3), No 51 (Ke3-Kd7). Все эти задачи основаны на интересном мотиве, когда две черные фигуры развязывают одну белую. Это не прямо противоречит предложенной теме, но мы считаем это недостатком, разновидностью полуразвязывания. Поскольку учет этого недостатка в данном ТТ означал бы понижение отличия для как минимум двух отличных задач (No 49 и No 51), мы решили не включать в присуждение никакие из вышеперечисленных задач, надеясь увидеть их на более высоком месте в других конкурсах.

After W1 both white pieces are pinned. Black unpins them directly in B2 (with dual avoidance) and in B3 (by attractive hideaways) by both pinners bQ and bB. Very nice and refreshing composition.
После первого хода белых обе их фигуры связаны. Черные прямо развязывают их на втором ходу (с антидуалью) и на третьем (с привлекательным хайдэвэем) силами обоих связывающих фигур – ферзя и слона. Очень красивая и свежая композиция.
After W1 only one white piece is pinned in both solutions which black successively unpins in B2 and B3. Very nice and subtle play.
После первого хода белых связана только одна их фигура, которую черные последовательно развязывают на втором и третьем ходах. Очень красивая и тонкая игра.
BBe6 in B2 unpins promoted self-pinned white mating pieces knight and queen. To enable promotions bQe3 in both solutions anticipatory unpins wPe7 and at the same time determine white’s line of play. Thematic play with only three pieces wPe7, bQe3 and bBe6. Very complex content.
Черный слон е6 развязывает каждую из превращенных самосвязанных белых фигур – коня и ферзя. Чтобы обеспечить эти превращения, черный ферзь е3 выполняет опережающее развязывание белой пешки и в то же самое время определяет линию игры белых. Тематическая игра лишь с тремя фигурами – wPe7, bQe3 и bBe6. Очень сложное содержание.
Both white pieces from the half-pin are pinned after W1, followed by indirect unpins on g5 in both solutions. Nice thematic black play is supplemented by reciprocal exchange of functions of white pieces with mates after gate openings in W2.
The only problem-task with three solutions with a little blemish – impure unpins in B3 (3.Qd5 in the first and 3.Bc4 in the third solution).
Единственная задача-таск с тремя решениями, но с маленьким недостатком – нечистые развязывания на третьем ходу черных (3.Qd5 в 1-м и 3.Bc4 в 3-м решении).
Very difficult idea – self-pinning of the same white piece in both solutions. Nice finding despite of small blemish impure unpin 3.Qd7 in the second solution.
Очень сложная идея – самосвязывание одной и той же белой фигуры в обоих решениях. Красивая находка, несмотря на маленький недостаток – нечистое развязывание 3.Qd7 вот втором решении.
