Владимир Набоков. (1899-1977). Русско-Американский писатель.
Составлять шахматные задачи Набоков начал ещё в 1917 году, а в 20-30-е годы он, по собственному признанию, посвящал этому занятию «чудовищное количество времени». Высшим творческим достижением этого периода стала задача, позже вошедшая в «Память, говори». После неё, вплоть до шестидесятых годов, наступил длительный период «шахматного молчания».
Как указывает биограф Набокова Брайан Бойд, в конце шестидесятых – начале семидесятых годов, в свой самый плодовитый шахматный период, Набоков подписывался на журнал The Problemist и публиковал в нём свои композиции. После первых нескольких опытов в январе 1970 года Набокова пригласили в американскую команду в качестве сочинителя задач для будущих международных турниров. Любители шахмат, подписывавшиеся на «Проблемист», считали его задачи не слишком трудными, зато остроумными и оригинальными по композиции.
В общей сложности Набоков опубликовал более 30 композиций. Он дважды занимал третье место в конкурсах журнала (Intermediate Composing Tourney, 1969; Selfmates Award Competition, 1972—1973).

After the first several experiences in January, 1970 Nabokov have invited in the American team as the author of tasks for the future international tournaments. The fans(amateurs) of a chess subscribing on "«Problemist", considered(counted) his(its) problems not too difficult, but witty and original on a composition.
In total Nabokov has published more than 30 compositions. It(he) twice borrowed(occupied) the third place in competitions of a magazine (Intermediate Composing Tourney, 1969; Selfmates Award Competition, 1972 — 1973).
